A group within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, known as The Progressive Frontliners (TPF), has urged the party leadership to consider Osun West for the gubernatorial candidacy in the 2026 elections.
The group, during a press conference titled “Osun 2026: West Lokan,” held in Osogbo on Friday, emphasized that Osun West should be given special consideration in the spirit of fairness and egalitarianism, as the region has never been favored in the selection process for the gubernatorial seat since the state’s creation.
Ajijola Ayodeji, the group’s Coordinator, made the call, stating that this year is critical as the APC prepares for the 2026 gubernatorial race. Ayodeji highlighted that the party’s values of transparency, accountability, and genuine service to the people should guide its decisions moving forward.
The group believes that Osun West has potential leaders who possess the popularity and abilities to secure an APC victory in 2026. Ayodeji reaffirmed that the “West agenda,” which has been gaining momentum, represents a commitment to equity, inclusion, and fairness in the state’s political landscape.
He added that zoning the party’s candidacy to Osun West would align with the APC’s core principles of unity and national integration, addressing the imbalance of representation across regions. Ayodeji argued that such a move would not only demonstrate the party’s commitment to balanced development but also energize the party’s base and local communities, enhancing their enthusiasm and support in the upcoming election.
In conclusion, the TPF members called for a more inclusive approach in the APC’s gubernatorial selection process, urging the party to empower Osun West in the development of the state, alongside other districts.
