PRP Slams Bauchi Government’s Wasteful N3.4 Billion Budget for Travel and Fuel

The Bauchi State chapter of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) has launched a scathing attack on the State Government and the House of Assembly for their proposed N3.4 billion budget allocation for fueling and travel expenses in 2025. In a statement issued by Wada Abdullahi, the PRP’s State Secretary, the party accused the government and legislators of a “blatant disregard for the welfare of the citizens.”

The controversial budget reveals a staggering N1 billion designated for fueling vehicles and generators at the Government House alone. This includes N500 million for motor vehicle fuel and another N500 million for generator fuel. Additionally, the State House of Assembly has proposed a jaw-dropping N1.4 billion for travel expenses, which further ignited public outrage.

To add insult to injury, the Office of the Secretary to the State Government has allocated a further N1 billion for international travel. The PRP described this as a disturbing reflection of misplaced priorities, accusing the government of prioritizing personal extravagance over the urgent needs of the people.

“It is time to spotlight the disturbing priorities of those in power and hold them accountable for their greed and irresponsibility amidst the growing economic struggles of Bauchi State residents,” Abdullahi stated.

The PRP lamented that while families across Bauchi struggle to make ends meet, state leaders are indulging in excessive spending. Abdullahi pointed out that such extravagant allocations could have been used to address critical issues such as healthcare and education, which have been neglected for far too long.

“This monstrous amount could fund life-changing healthcare facilities and schools. Yet, our leaders prioritize unnecessary travel over addressing the dire challenges facing our communities,” he added. Abdullahi emphasized that hospitals lack basic equipment, schools are underfunded, and infrastructure is in dire need of repair.

Despite these pressing issues, the government has chosen to allocate funds for lavish international trips, a move that reeks of self-interest and a complete disregard for the suffering of the citizens. The PRP has demanded an immediate halt to such wasteful spending and called for better governance in the state.

“The people of Bauchi are watching, and we will hold our leaders accountable for this reckless mismanagement of public funds,” Abdullahi declared. He urged Bauchi residents to rise against the culture of impunity and demand change.

“The time for change is now. We must unite to reclaim our state from those whose greed threatens its future,” the statement concluded.
