The apex Igbo socio-cultural group, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, has expressed excitement about President Bola Tinubu’s scheduled visit to Enugu State today. The group also voiced optimism regarding the possible release of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
A statement from the Secretary to the Enugu State Government, Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, confirmed that the President’s visit will include the commissioning of several projects executed by Governor Peter Mbah’s administration during his one-day stay.
In a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Alex Ogbonnia, Ohanaeze expressed joy over the federal government’s improving attitude toward the Igbo people. The group also highlighted that national peace, unity, patriotism, and sustainable economic development can only be achieved through equity and social justice.
The statement continued, “Ohanaeze Ndigbo expresses immense delight over the gradual attitudinal change of the Federal Government towards the Igbo. It has been Ohanaeze’s firm belief that the products of equity are vital for national peace and development.”
The group further expressed hope that President Tinubu’s visit to Enugu would cement his place in the hearts of Ndigbo and well-meaning Nigerians, should he fulfill their hope by ordering the release of Nnamdi Kanu.
