Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule has dismissed all members of his cabinet, including the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Barrister Muhammed Umbandoma Aliyu, and his advisers. The decision was announced in a press statement signed by Mohammed Iliyasu Idde, the Permanent Secretary of Cabinet Affairs and Special Services, and shared with news outlets in Lafia, the state capital.
The dissolution came shortly after Vice President Kashim Shettima concluded a one-day visit to the state on Friday. It was reported that the dismissed cabinet members had attended a state function earlier in the day, which coincided with the Vice President’s visit.
In July 2023, Governor Sule had submitted the names of 17 commissioner-nominees to the Nasarawa State House of Assembly for screening and confirmation as members of the State Executive Council. Although the specific reasons for the cabinet dissolution remain unclear, the Governor has been known for his efforts to restructure and improve the state’s administration.
This move is not the first of its kind; in 2021, Sule also dissolved the state executive council, citing the need for a more efficient and effective governance structure. The removal of the SSG is considered a typical development due to the critical role the office plays in advising the governor and coordinating state policies.
