Gunmen, suspected to be members of the Lakurawa terrorist group, have launched a deadly attack in Natsini village, Argungu Local Government Area of Kebbi State, killing two policemen and stealing more than 200 cattle. The assault occurred late Thursday evening, around 11 p.m., near a checkpoint along the Augie/Kangiwa road.
Eyewitnesses reported that the assailants, numbering over 50 and armed with motorcycles, swiftly overwhelmed the officers stationed at the checkpoint. After neutralizing the policemen, the gunmen proceeded to the nearby village, where they rustled the cattle, taking them away.
Aliyu Gulma, Chairman of the Argungu Local Government Area, confirmed the tragic incident and revealed that a security meeting had been convened in response. He added that the state government has issued orders for security forces to track down the perpetrators and recover the stolen livestock.
At the time of reporting, SP Nafiu Abubakar, the spokesperson for the Kebbi State Police Command, was unavailable for comment regarding the attack.
