A tragic communal clash erupted yesterday in Miga Local Government Area of Jigawa State, resulting in multiple fatalities and several injuries. The violence is believed to have been triggered by a long-standing dispute between two local communities.
The state police spokesperson, SP Shi’isu Lawan Adam, confirmed the clash and reported that many people had lost their lives, while others are receiving treatment for their injuries in hospitals. “We are working to restore calm and order in the affected areas,” Adam stated.
He revealed that the violence stemmed from an ongoing dispute that had been the focus of previous dialogue and mediation efforts. Unfortunately, tensions escalated into violent conflict. “We have been engaging in dialogue and mediation, but the situation turned violent,” Adam explained.
The police are committed to apprehending those responsible for the violence and ensuring peace is restored in the affected communities. “We will not tolerate any form of violence or lawlessness in our state,” he emphasized. “We must learn to live together in harmony and respect each other’s differences.”
The police are conducting an investigation to determine the exact cause of the clash, assess the full extent of the casualties and injuries, and prevent further violence. SP Adam urged residents to cooperate with security agencies and maintain peace. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the victims,” he said.
