Lagos Governor Approves N443 Million Death Benefits for Families of 132 Civil Servants
Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has approved the disbursement of N443 million as death benefits to the families of 132 local government and State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) workers. This gesture was presented by the Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs, and Rural Development, Bolaji Robert, who was represented by Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Kikelomo Bolarinwa, at the ministry’s conference room in Alausa-Ikeja.
Robert emphasized that this disbursement is a testament to the governor’s prioritization of workers’ welfare. He noted that the financial support is a recognition of the dedication and quality service provided by the civil servants, offering some comfort and financial security to the bereaved families.
In his remarks, Robert urged the beneficiaries to use the benefits wisely. He acknowledged that no amount of financial compensation could replace the emotional loss of a loved one, but hoped that the benefits would provide necessary support during a challenging time. He also called on desk officers to ensure proper documentation of certificates for the beneficiaries.
Director of Local Government Administration, Rasak Amodu, echoed the sentiment, highlighting that Sanwo-Olu has continuously approved these insurance payouts to ensure that grieving families are not left stranded.
Mrs. Bolarinwa expressed gratitude to the insurance firms, LASACO and Haggai, for their collaboration in ensuring the smooth disbursement of the benefits.
In closing, SUBEB Chair, Hakeem Babatunde-Shittu, represented by the Director of Pensions, Mrs. Taibat Olona, added that the presentation of the benefits was a way of honoring those who had contributed to the development of a greater Lagos.
