Army Strikes Back: Two Suspects Killed After Killing Four Soldiers in Rivers

The Nigerian Army has reported a major breakthrough in the ongoing fight against criminal gangs in Rivers State. In a statement issued on Tuesday, Lt.-Col. Danjuma Danjuma, the spokesperson for the Army’s 6 Division in Port Harcourt, revealed that two suspects were shot dead by Army troops after being accused of killing four soldiers who were on protection duty in the region.

The incident occurred when troops from the 5 Battalion launched a raid on a hideout in Kalaogbokolo, Ahoada West Local Government Area, following intelligence reports. The suspects, part of an unidentified gang, were linked to the brutal killing of four soldiers and the abduction of two Korean expatriates working for Daewoo Nigeria Limited on December 12, 2023.

During the raid, two gang members were captured but were fatally shot after attempting to flee into nearby bushes, despite a prolonged chase by the soldiers. The Army spokesman explained that intelligence led them to believe the criminals had returned to their community hideouts, making them a prime target for the operation.

The troops seized several firearms, including an AK-47 rifle, a Fabrique National rifle, and a pump-action shotgun, alongside other weaponry such as locally made rifles and ammunition, further intensifying the Army’s efforts to dismantle the gang.

Lt.-Col. Danjuma reassured the public that the Army remains committed to bringing criminals to justice. “No matter how long it takes, those responsible for such heinous acts will face the consequences of their actions,” he stated. He also urged citizens to continue providing valuable intelligence to assist the Army in safeguarding lives and property in the region.
