96 Kwara Police Officers Promoted; CP Charges Them to Uphold International Best Practices

The Kwara State Police Commissioner, Victor Olaiya, has called on 96 newly promoted officers to prioritize professionalism in the fight against crime and to foster positive community relations in alignment with international best practices.

The Commissioner issued this charge during a decoration ceremony held at the Kwara Police Command’s headquarters in Ilorin, where the officers were formally recognized for their new ranks. Among those promoted was the command’s spokesperson, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, who was elevated to the rank of Superintendent of Police (SP).

Commissioner Olaiya described the promotion as a testament to the officers’ dedication and hard work, urging them to live up to the responsibilities their new ranks demand. He stressed that their promotions come with the expectation of enhanced accountability, a higher commitment to public safety, and an unwavering dedication to maintaining security across Kwara State.

The notable promotions included:

  • One officer promoted to Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP): Mukaila Yusuf, currently the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of C Division.
  • Fourteen officers elevated to the rank of Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP), including Olufemi Abraham (O/C Anti-Kidnapping Unit), Nkama Onyekwere Oko (A/Cmd, Ilofa), and Babatunde Lateef (DPO, Afon Division).
  • Four officers promoted to Superintendent of Police (SP), including Adetokunbo Aladejare (O/C Legal, SCID), Ihyom Aondongusha (DTO, F Division, Tanke), and the spokesperson, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi (PPRO).
  • Seventy-seven officers promoted to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), including Orogbemi Dupe (2I/C, Chaplaincy) and Yusuf Zaharaddeen Chiri (P.A. to CP Kwara).

The Police Commissioner also expressed gratitude to the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, and the Chairman of the Police Service Commission, Hashimu Salihu Argungu, for their ongoing commitment to the welfare of the officers, which played a significant role in the promotion exercise.

In a statement issued by the newly promoted SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, the Kwara Police Command reaffirmed its dedication to protecting lives and property in the state. The statement also called on the public to continue cooperating with the police as they work to combat crime and ensure the safety of the community.
