Bala Inuwa Accuses Kano Anti-Corruption Commission of Violating Court Order

Bala Inuwa, former Managing Director of the Kano State Agricultural Supply Company (KASCO), has accused the State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission of violating a court order by unlawfully confiscating his properties, valued at billions of Naira. The properties, which include trailers, fertilizer grinding machines, and other agricultural equipment, were seized in defiance of an existing High Court order, according to Bala.

Speaking to the press on Wednesday, Bala explained that the commission took over his assets despite a court ruling halting any action on the properties until a substantive case is determined. The legal dispute, stemming from a suit (No. K/M 1563/2024) before Justice Aisha Ya’u, involves Bala Inuwa Muhammad and Safiyanu Hamisu, who are suing under the names of Limestone Processing Links against the Nigeria Police Force and the Commissioner of Police.

In its ruling, the court had prohibited the respondents from entering the premises, located at No. 157 Kumbotso Rasha, Kumbotso Local Government Area of Kano State, and taking away movable properties. The court declared that the police action, under the guise of inventorying for an investigation against Bala Inuwa, was illegal and violated the applicants’ constitutional rights to their properties.

Despite the court’s ruling, Bala alleges that the anti-corruption commission ignored the directive, leading him to seek further court intervention. He obtained a second court order, barring the commission, police, and the state commissioner of police from interfering with or occupying his property.

However, Barrister Muhyi Magaji Rimin Gado, Chairman of the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission, dismissed the allegations, claiming that all of Bala’s orders were obtained in default and had expired. Rimin Gado argued that the commission’s actions were lawful, as they had substituted police personnel with agents from the Kano State Road Traffic Agency (KAROTA) under the commission’s statutory powers.

The matter remains unresolved, with further legal proceedings pending.
