Sokoto Security Officer Tragically Killed by Accidental Gunshot After Kidnap Victim Rescue Operation
A member of the Sokoto State Community Guard Corps tragically lost his life following an accidental discharge of his weapon, shortly after participating in a successful joint operation that freed 66 kidnapped victims in the state.
The operation, which took place on Monday in the Tidibali Forest, in the eastern part of Sokoto State, was led by the Nigerian Army. According to Colonel Ahmed Usman (rtd), Special Adviser to Governor Ahmed Aliyu on Security, the fatal incident occurred as the team returned to their base after the mission.
“The incident happened just after the team had completed their operation and were back at their base,” Colonel Usman confirmed to Daily Trust. “The operative was handling his firearm when it accidentally discharged, fatally wounding him. He passed away shortly afterward.”
Despite the tragic incident, Colonel Usman took the opportunity to highlight the progress of the operation, which is being funded by the state government in its efforts to combat banditry.
“So far, 66 kidnapped victims have been rescued, and several bandits have been neutralized during the operation,” he shared. “The operation is ongoing as we work tirelessly to rid the state of criminal elements, particularly bandits.”
The rescued victims were transported to Isa town in Isa Local Government Area, where they were provided with care and support after their ordeal.
