FCT Police Foil Human Trafficking Attempt, Rescue 59 Children
Operatives from the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command have successfully intercepted a human trafficking ring, rescuing 59 children, aged between 4 and 12 years, who were suspected to have been trafficked from Kano.
The operation occurred on January 6, 2025, when a team led by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Sarki Umar stopped a white Peugeot 15-seater bus, also known as a J5, on its way to Nasarawa State.
The police, led by Commissioner Tunji Disu, confirmed that the bus was carrying 59 male children, all allegedly being transported under the false pretense of receiving training in Nasarawa. The children, hailing from different families, had been gathered by a man named Idris Usman from Nasarawa State, who had traveled to Kano State to collect them.
At the scene, the driver, Ali Ibrahim, and his assistant, Alhassan Ibrahim, both residents of Kano, were immediately arrested. Preliminary investigations revealed that the traffickers had planned to transport the children to Nasarawa, where their fate remained uncertain.
The swift intervention by the FCT police has likely saved the children from a dangerous fate, highlighting the ongoing efforts to combat human trafficking in the region.
