Kebbi Government Compensates 164 Landowners with N150 Million for New Cemetery Construction

The Kebbi State Government has allocated N150 million as compensation to 164 landowners for land acquired for the construction of a new cemetery in Unguwar Dembo, located on the outskirts of Birnin Kebbi. The compensation cheques were officially distributed on Thursday at the palace of the District Head of Birnin Kebbi, Ubandoman Gwandu, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq Ibrahim.

Speaking at the event, the Chairman of Birnin Kebbi Local Government, Alhaji Muhammad Dahiru Nayaya Ambursa, shared that the cemetery project was approved by Governor Nasir Idris after reports indicated that the current burial site at Dukku, within the state capital, was nearing full capacity.

“Just four days after receiving the report, Governor Idris directed the Birnin Kebbi Local Government, Gwandu Emirate, and the Ministries of Lands and Finance to assess the proposed site, which had been identified eight years ago,” Nayaya Ambursa said, as stated in a press release by the Governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Yahaya Sarki, on Thursday.

He further noted, “The governor not only instructed that compensation be promptly paid to all landowners but also ordered that the construction of the cemetery begin immediately. Additionally, the installation of two solar-powered boreholes and 25 solar lights at the site was part of the project’s plan.”

TPL Abubakar Ahmad, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Lands and Housing, also known as Sarkin Yen Sarki, detailed the comprehensive process that led to the compensation payment.

“A thorough assessment and inventory of the landowners was carried out under the governor’s directive. Today, we are distributing cheques to 164 beneficiaries, amounting to N150 million. May Allah reward the governor abundantly for this generous act,” Ahmad remarked.

In their remarks, Galadiman Gwandu, Alhaji Ibrahim Bashar KKB, and Ubandoman Gwandu, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq Ibrahim, who represented the Emir of Gwandu, commended Governor Idris for his fairness and commitment to the welfare of the people.
