APC Vows to Take Over Leadership of Abia State in 2027, Promises More Democracy Dividends
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has declared its intention to take over the leadership of Abia State in the 2027 elections, pledging to bring more democracy dividends to the people of the state.
Kingsley Ononogbu, the Chairman of APC in Abia, made the declaration at the Abiriba Stadium in Abiriba, Ohafia Local Government Area, on Friday. He made the statement during the formal defection of former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) member, Kelvin Jombo Onumah, and his supporters to the APC.
Ononogbu highlighted the achievements of key APC members from Abia, including Senator Orji Uzor Kalu in the Senate, Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu in the House of Representatives, and Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha. He expressed confidence that these successes would help the party win key seats in Abia during the 2027 elections.
“We expect that if we take over Abia State in 2027, you will see more actions, verifiable actions,” Ononogbu affirmed, noting that the party had addressed past mistakes that hindered its chances in the 2023 polls. He emphasized that the APC is now more united and ready to take the reins in 2027.
At the event, Ononogbu presented the APC flag to Kelvin Jombo, commending his decision to join the party and expressing hope that his defection would contribute to the APC’s strength in the state.
In his speech, Jombo stated that his decision to join APC was driven by his desire to bring development to his constituents in the Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency and Abia North in general. He also expressed his commitment to adding value to the APC.
Senator Orji Uzor Kalu also spoke at the event, urging Nigerians to be patient with President Bola Tinubu’s economic reforms, despite current hardships. Kalu reassured the public that the country would overcome its present challenges, including hunger and economic difficulties.
Kalu also reiterated that the APC remained the largest party in Nigeria, urging for fair and balanced coverage of the party’s achievements in the media.
Meanwhile, Abraham Amah, the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), responded with a statement on Friday, asserting that his party would “bounce back” and surprise those who doubted its resilience.
