Enugu Court Orders Samuel Anyanwu to Stop Parading as PDP National Secretary
An Enugu High Court has issued a ruling restraining the sacked National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Samuel Anyanwu, from presenting himself as the party’s secretary, threatening imprisonment if he fails to comply.
The ruling, delivered by Justice C.O. Ajah, directed Anyanwu to cease his actions immediately. The court warned that failure to adhere to the order could result in contempt charges and a possible prison sentence.
The case was brought before the court by Emmanuel Aniagu, with the PDP, its Acting National Chairman Iliya Umar Damagun, Anyanwu, and PDP National Vice Chairman for the Southeast, Ali Odefa, listed as defendants.
The judgment noted that Anyanwu was elected as PDP National Secretary in 2021, but his actions and dual roles have led to significant issues. The court emphasized that Anyanwu, who was also the party’s gubernatorial candidate for the Imo State election, had made himself a “judge in his own cause” by holding both positions. This, the court found, was in violation of the PDP’s constitution and electoral guidelines.
Consequently, the court ordered that Anyanwu must no longer represent himself as the PDP National Secretary. Instead, Hon. S.K.E. Udeh Okoye, recommended by the Southeast Zonal Executive Committee, was to be officially recognized as the new National Secretary to serve out the remaining tenure.
The ruling marks a significant step in resolving internal leadership conflicts within the PDP and ensuring proper governance within the party.
