APC Chieftain Denies Rumors of Kalu’s 2027 Gubernatorial Ambition

Mr. Emma Trumps Eke, a prominent chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State, has dismissed as “baseless and politically motivated” reports suggesting that the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu, is planning to run for the governorship of Abia State in 2027.

Eke, who also serves as the Federal Commissioner representing Abia State in the National Population Commission, made the clarification in a statement issued to journalists on Friday. He specifically condemned the rumors circulating on what he described as an “obscure blog,” attributing them to an unnamed “invisible politician” from Igbere. According to Eke, the aim of the rumors was to promote the candidacy of the politician’s younger brother for the Bende Federal Constituency seat.

As an ally of Deputy Speaker Kalu, Eke emphasized that Kalu is focused on strengthening the APC and delivering results for the party and the President, rather than harboring personal political ambitions at this time.

“The political future of the Deputy Speaker will be determined by God and his political family,” Eke stated. “Whether he will run for Senate, governorship, or return to the House of Representatives will be decided openly.”

He further added that Kalu, as the leader of the opposition in Abia, is dedicated to working towards redeeming the state and should not be distracted by such rumors. Eke stressed that the APC is increasingly attracting talented and resourceful individuals with the goal of winning Abia State in future elections.

He called for unity within the APC in Abia and dismissed the divisive rumors as distractions from the party’s goal of strengthening its position in the state ahead of the next elections.
