YC Maikyau SAN abolished Complimentary Stamp for Lawyers, not Afam Osigwe SAN- NBA GS, Dr. Ojibara
The NBA General Secretary, Dr Mobolaji Ojibara has stated that the current NBA Administration under Afam Osigwe SAN is not responsible for the abolition of free stamp and seal for lawyers.
In a recent Zoom session titled “Firechat” with lawyers, the General Secretary of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), addressed the concerns of lawyers over the discontinuation of free stamps and seals for NBA members upon payment of Bar Practice Fees.
Dr. Ojibara clarified that the decision to stop issuing complimentary stamps and seals was not made by the current administration of Mazi Afam Osigwe SAN but by the previous administration led by YC Maikyau SAN.
The free stamp and seal initiative was originally introduced under Olumide Akpata’s leadership as a value-added service for lawyers who paid their Bar Practicing Fees. The policy ensured that lawyers received complimentary stamps and seal for paying their bar practice fees as and when due.
According to Dr Ojibara, the welfare package was discontinued during YC Maikyau SAN’s tenure, a change that has caused dissatisfaction within the legal community.
Under the current administration of Mazi Afam Osigwe SAN, the NBA further raised the price of four sheets of stamps and seals from ₦4,000 to ₦7,000.
Dr. Ojibara’s clarification aimed to address a press publication that it was Afam Osigwe SAN’s Administration that stopped the free stamp and seal for lawyers and ensure that the correct timeline of events is understood by lawyers.
