The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Benue State has officially nominated former Governor Samuel Ortom as a member of the party’s Board of Trustees (BOT), marking a new chapter in the leadership of the party in the state.
Ortom’s nomination follows the expiration of the tenure of the previous BOT members, signifying a significant leadership transition. The announcement was made in a statement by the PDP’s Publicity Secretary, Tim Nyor, on Tuesday.
Nyor explained that the nomination was in accordance with sections 32(1)(g) and 32(4) of the PDP constitution, with a formal communication sent from the party Secretariat to Chief Ortom. The letter was signed by Comrade Dan Nyikwagh, the party’s Secretary.
The State Working Committee (SWC), under the leadership of Rt. Hon. Ezekiel Awulu Adaji, emphasized that Ortom’s vast experience and unwavering dedication to the party made him the perfect fit for the role. “After careful deliberation, the SWC unanimously endorsed you, recognizing your invaluable contributions to the party, exemplary leadership, and steadfast commitment to the progress of the PDP,” the statement read.
Serving as Governor of Benue State from 2015 to 2023, Ortom has been a significant force within the PDP, renowned for his leadership in governance and advocacy on social issues. His appointment to the BOT is seen as a strategic move to enhance the party’s influence, especially as the PDP prepares for upcoming elections.
The SWC expressed optimism that Ortom’s new role will reinforce party cohesion in Benue and ensure the state’s interests are well-represented within the national party framework. With this important nomination, Ortom is poised to play a vital role in shaping the PDP’s policies and direction, both within the state and across the country.
