Nyesom Wike Signs 5,481 C of Os, Cuts Processing Time to Two Weeks for Land Allottees
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Mr. Nyesom Wike, has signed a total of 5,481 Certificates of Occupancy (C of O) between August 2023 and December 2024.
This figure was disclosed in a statement by the minister’s Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Mr. Lere Olayinka, on Tuesday in Abuja.
Olayinka explained that the number of C of Os signed during this period was 2,919 more than the 8,400 C of Os issued by the FCT Administration over the previous 13 years (2010-2023).
According to the statement, from May 2010 to May 2015, 5,655 C of Os were issued, while 1,174 were signed between 2015 and May 2019. Additionally, between May 2019 and May 2023, 1,571 C of Os were signed. However, within a shorter time frame, from May 2023 to December 31, 2024, the FCT Minister, under President Bola Tinubu’s leadership, signed 5,481 C of Os.
Olayinka further noted that the process for obtaining a C of O had been streamlined. Previously, after making payment, land allottees could wait for several years to receive their C of O. However, under the current administration, land allottees now receive their C of Os within two weeks of payment.
Moreover, he highlighted the improvement in access to information, saying that the previous process for tracking C of O collections could take months. Under the new system, it now takes just 72 hours to obtain such information.
Olayinka added that in the coming weeks, land allottees with C of Os ready for collection will start receiving SMS notifications informing them that their titled documents are available for pick-up.
The FCT Administration’s efforts are part of the broader reforms under President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, aimed at improving efficiency and transparency in the governance of the Federal Capital Territory.
