25-Year-Old Olajide Fajana Sentenced to Life Imprisonment for Raping 17-Year-Old Girl in Ekiti
A 25-year-old man, Olajide Fajana, has been sentenced to life imprisonment by an Ekiti State High Court sitting in Ado Ekiti for the rape of a 17-year-old girl.
Fajana was found guilty of the crime by the court, presided over by Justice Lekan Ogunmoye. The sentencing came after the convict was convicted of rape, an offence he committed in Ikere-Ekiti on July 14, 2023.
The prosecutor, Adetola Johnson, told the court that the offence violated Section 31(2) of the Child’s Rights Law, Cap. C17, Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.
The victim testified in court, recounting how Fajana had hypnotized her before convincing her to follow him to his home. According to the victim’s testimony, Fajana ordered her to undress and, after giving her an egg to rub on her body, performed the assault. He then told her to return home and bring N16,000 to complete a sacrifice. However, after returning home, the victim regained full consciousness and disclosed the incident to her mother.
Despite Fajana’s earlier threats of death if she reported the incident, the victim chose to confide in her mother, which led to the matter being brought to court.
The prosecutor called three witnesses and submitted the convict’s statements as evidence to establish his guilt. In his defense, Fajana, through his lawyer, did not call any witnesses.
In delivering his judgment, Justice Ogunmoye ruled that the evidence presented proved the defendant’s guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. Consequently, he sentenced Fajana to life imprisonment.
