Governor Uba Sani Advocates for Localized Security Solutions in Kaduna
Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State has reaffirmed his commitment to tackling the state’s security challenges with a localized, bottom-up approach. This strategy aims to address the specific security issues of each local government area rather than applying a one-size-fits-all solution.
The Governor’s dedication to this new approach was communicated by the state’s Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Dr. James Kanyip, who recently embarked on an assessment tour of the security situation in Kaduna. The purpose of this tour, which covers the Giwa and Igabi Local Government Areas, is to engage directly with communities affected by security concerns and gather vital first-hand information.
Speaking to newsmen, Dr. Kanyip emphasized that the hands-on initiative marks a shift towards more direct community involvement in the state’s security efforts. “This hands-on approach will enable me to understand local security dynamics. I feel that I should not be an armchair Commissioner who just waits for reports,” he stated.
He noted that the initiative brings together a wide range of stakeholders, including local government officials, traditional rulers, religious leaders, youth groups, and women’s organizations. According to Kanyip, the Kaduna State Government (KDSG) recognizes the critical role of local leaders and other community members in fostering lasting peace and security.
Through these interactions, the state aims to gather valuable insights into the unique security challenges faced by local communities and use this information to implement more effective and tailored solutions. The Governor and his team are hopeful that this inclusive and localized approach will significantly strengthen the ongoing peace process in Kaduna State.
