Oyo State Collaborates with Neighboring States to Tackle Banditry

The Oyo State Government has announced that it is working closely with neighboring states to secure its borders and protect the region from the influx of bandits from the northern part of Nigeria. Governor Seyi Makinde previously highlighted that some of these bandits were entering the South-West through Oyo State, which shares borders with Kwara, Ogun, and Osun states.

Fatai Owoseni, the Special Adviser to the governor on Security, revealed that the state government is collaborating with these neighboring states to bolster security along its borders. He made the statement while addressing journalists on the resolution of the state security council on Tuesday.

Owoseni reassured residents that the government is committed to their safety and urged them to go about their lawful activities without fear. He emphasized that the government would use every resource available to ensure Oyo State remains secure.

To enhance security, Owoseni announced that expanded meetings would be held, involving local government chairmen and traditional rulers. This initiative aims to take security efforts to the grassroots level, as local governments and traditional rulers are closer to the people and have valuable knowledge of their communities.

“By integrating local government officials and traditional rulers into the security network, we are strengthening our approach to combating criminal activities like banditry,” Owoseni said. He further noted that security is everyone’s responsibility and that the involvement of all stakeholders is crucial to maintaining peace in the state.
