NCAA Achieves Record Refunds for Air Travelers in 2024

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has announced that it achieved a record volume of refunds to air travelers in 2024, marking a significant milestone for the agency. Michael Achimugu, the Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at the NCAA, shared this update during an interview on Nigeria Info FM, assuring passengers that refunds are guaranteed once they report issues to the authority.

Achimugu explained that the process for obtaining refunds is straightforward: passengers should first file a complaint directly with the airline. If the issue remains unresolved, they can escalate the matter to the NCAA. He emphasized that refunds are processed daily, with 2024 being a record year for both refunds and compensations in the history of the NCAA.

Additionally, Achimugu addressed the growing issue of unruly passenger behavior, stressing that there is no justification for such actions. He reiterated that passengers have clear channels to report any mistreatment or poor service by airlines. The NCAA has recently imposed sanctions on five airlines—three domestic and two international—for violations related to consumer protection. This marks the first time in over a decade that such sanctions have been imposed, signaling the NCAA’s commitment to ensuring passenger rights are upheld.
