Operation Hadin Kai Bans Drones Across North-East Over Security Concerns

The Joint Task Force of Operation Hadin Kai in the North-East has imposed a ban on the use of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), commonly known as drones, across Borno, Yobe, and Adamawa states. The directive, issued by Air Commodore U.U. Idris, the Air Component Commander of Operation Hadin Kai, comes in response to escalating security risks associated with unauthorized drone operations in the region.

In a statement obtained by Daily Trust, Idris highlighted that the growing use of drones for both domestic and commercial purposes had become a serious security concern. He warned that non-state actors and criminal groups might exploit drones for subversive activities, further destabilizing the region.

The directive also addressed the frequent violation of regulations by government agencies and private individuals operating drones without prior clearance from the Air Component. Idris pointed out that drones have been used by adversaries to target military assets and vital national infrastructure, intensifying the security threat.

A recent incident, in which a drone was intercepted aboard an NGO flight from Maiduguri to Monguno on January 7, 2025, underscored the urgency of the situation. The confiscated drone is currently under investigation, raising concerns about the unauthorized use of drones in conflict zones.

To mitigate these threats, Operation Hadin Kai’s Air Component has reinforced its role in monitoring and regulating aerial activities in the region. Idris emphasized that the ban on drone operations in Borno, Yobe, and Adamawa will remain in effect, with any violations being treated with utmost seriousness.

“All stakeholders are urged to strictly adhere to this regulation to ensure the safety and security of the airspace,” Idris said, reiterating the importance of compliance to safeguard the region from potential threats posed by unauthorized drone activities.
