ALGON Joins Forces with PACE to Promote Best Practices in Rural Governance
The Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) has reaffirmed its dedication to promoting accountability, transparency, and sustainable fiscal practices across the nation’s local government areas.
During a collaborative meeting in Abuja on Wednesday with the Partnership for Agile Governance and Climate Engagement (PACE), ALGON National President, Hon. Bello Yandaki, underscored the association’s commitment to improving governance at the grassroots level. The meeting was focused on advancing best practices in rural governance, with an emphasis on enhancing the capacity of the country’s 774 local government areas (LGAs).
Hon. Yandaki expressed appreciation for PACE’s initiative, particularly in the area of budgeting, which he noted has long been a challenge for local governments. He emphasized that the partnership would continue ALGON’s ongoing multisectoral engagements aimed at strengthening local governance structures.
He also took the opportunity to thank President Bola Tinubu for his administration’s support in revitalizing the local government system, recognizing the crucial role of LGAs in the country’s governance framework.
In his remarks, Yandaki highlighted ALGON’s extensive collaborations with key organizations such as MSH, USAID, UNICEF, and PACE, which have been instrumental in enhancing the capabilities of LGA leaders. These partnerships, he explained, focus on crucial areas such as training, budgeting, and auditing to improve governance and service delivery at the local level.
“The collaboration’s framework and budgeting processes aim to provide clear guidance on avoiding common pitfalls, ensuring that LGA officers operate with transparency and deliver excellent services to the public,” Yandaki concluded.
