The National Assembly Joint Committee on Finance has cleared the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) of the alleged misappropriation of funds in its 2024 budget implementation.
Chairman of the committee, Senator Sani Musa, issued a statement on Thursday exonerating the board from accusations of reckless spending, noting that the documents submitted by JAMB refuted such claims. During a budget defense session with JAMB’s Registrar, Ishaq Oloyede, the committee had raised concerns over the board’s reported expenditures, alleging that N1.1 billion was spent on meals and N850 million on fumigation, among other expenses.
Despite the committee’s initial reservations, Senator Musa explained that the JAMB registrar had made efforts to clarify the expenditure details. However, these explanations were overruled at the time. As a result, the committee had requested that JAMB provide a detailed breakdown of its 2024 and 2025 budgetary appropriations and spending.
In his statement, Senator Musa emphasized that the comprehensive report submitted by JAMB clarified that the expenditures discussed during Monday’s hearing did not indicate any mismanagement of funds. Instead, the report demonstrated that the board had utilized its resources in a responsible and efficient manner.
He further commended the JAMB registrar for exhibiting financial discipline and accountability in managing the board’s resources. “The registrar’s stewardship is a commendable example of financial responsibility and serves as a model for public institutions across Nigeria,” he added.
