14-Month Deadline Set for Abuja-Kaduna-Kano Road Rehabilitation, Minister Affirms
The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, has assured Nigerians that the rehabilitation of the Abuja-Kaduna-Kano dual carriageway will be completed within 14 months, following the inauguration of the rehabilitation work on Thursday.
Speaking during the launch of the Abuja to Kaduna segment, Idris highlighted the government’s dedication to meeting the 14-month deadline set by President Bola Tinubu. “President Tinubu is committed to ensuring this vital road is finished in a record time of 14 months,” the minister stated.
The project has been divided into three sections for efficient execution: Section 1 covers Abuja to Kaduna, Section 2 spans from Kaduna to Zaria, and Section 3 goes from Zaria to Kano. Idris explained that this division would allow for faster construction and ensure progress, which led to the government’s decision to cancel the previous three-year timeline proposed by the former contractor.
The Minister of Works, Mr. David Umahi, has been instrumental in addressing prior delays, and Idris emphasized the full cooperation of the National Assembly to make sure there are no hurdles in completing the project on time.
The rehabilitation involves a major overhaul of the road, including scarification, embankment filling, reinforced concrete-lined drains, median barriers, and a thick concrete pavement for the carriageway and shoulders. The road’s completion will significantly improve connectivity across the region.
