Ogun Police Arrest Street Urchin for Robbing Women in Sagamu

The Ogun State Police Command has apprehended Abdullahi Sodiq, a street urchin accused of engaging in sharp tricks to rob unsuspecting individuals, particularly women, of their valuables. Sodiq’s arrest, which took place on Thursday, follows an intensified crackdown ordered by the Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, against criminal activity across the state.

According to a statement from the police command’s spokesperson, CSP Omolola Odutola, the suspect was arrested while patrolling the Sakura Division of Sagamu. Police officers noticed Sodiq carrying a black nylon bag, which contained several stolen items, including an iPhone 12 Pro Max, travel documents, a house key, and additional personal documents.

A Quick Arrest and Recovery of Stolen Property

Sodiq, unable to explain how he came into possession of the bag and its contents, was taken into custody for further questioning. A subsequent investigation revealed that the items belonged to one Iyabo Ogunubi, a woman who had earlier fallen victim to Sodiq’s criminal activities.

The police confirmed that the suspect’s actions had been part of a string of thefts targeting unsuspecting people, especially women. “Officers from the Sakura Police Division apprehended a male street urchin who engages in sharp tricks to rob unsuspecting people of their possessions,” the statement said.

Crackdown on Criminals in Ogun State

The arrest is part of an ongoing effort by the Ogun State Police, following a directive from Commissioner Ogunlowo to ramp up raids targeting criminals in the region. The goal of these operations is to reduce crime and prevent further harm to residents, especially women who have become targets of these criminal acts.

A Call for Public Vigilance

Sodiq’s arrest has drawn attention to the growing issue of street crime in the state. Police have urged the public to remain vigilant and protect their valuables, particularly in busy areas. The suspect will soon face trial, with authorities promising continued action against criminals in Ogun.
