Delta Governor Oborevwori Has No Plans to Join APC, Says Commissioner Aniagwu
Charles Aniagwu, the Delta State Commissioner for Works, Rural Roads, and Public Information, has categorically dismissed rumors that Governor Sheriff Oborevwori intends to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Speaking on Arise TV’s Morning Show, Aniagwu clarified that the governor remains a staunch member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and has no plans to leave the party. He referred to Oborevwori as a “poster governor” for the PDP, stressing that the rumors about the governor joining the APC were simply the products of wishful thinking from detractors.
Aniagwu explained, “When you go to the hospital as a patient, doctors bring out equipment to test you and diagnose any issues. I wish we could set up a political lab to test the political temperature of those of us in Delta. You would see that the PDP runs profoundly and heavily in our bloodstream.”
He further added, “Oborevwori is not only a proud member of the PDP and a leader of the party both in Delta and Nigeria, but he is also a performing governor who can rightly be regarded as a ‘poster governor’ for the PDP.”
The Commissioner made it clear that the governor’s support for President Bola Tinubu was not a sign of defection but rather a patriotic move aimed at promoting good governance. He emphasized that Oborevwori’s cooperation with the president does not suggest a shift in political allegiance.
“Oborevwori remains firmly in the PDP and has no intention of leaving. For us in the PDP, he is a symbol of what the party stands for,” Aniagwu asserted.
Addressing the rumors about the PDP’s future, Aniagwu dismissed claims about the party’s decline, labeling such predictions as “the height of a malaria-induced dream.” He acknowledged the existence of internal disagreements within the party but noted that this was expected in any organization with a significant history of governance and influence.
