Osun State Takes Action: 7 PM to 7 AM Curfew Imposed in Ilobu-Ifon Conflict
In response to the recent outbreak of communal violence between the people of Ifon and Ilobu, the Osun State Government has imposed a curfew from 7 pm to 7 am to prevent further escalation. The announcement was made by the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Oluomo Kolapo Alimi, in a press statement released today in Osogbo, the state capital.
The government has acted swiftly to address the situation, deploying a contingent of security personnel, including the Army, Police, and Civil Defence, to the affected communities to restore order and prevent further chaos. The curfew, which began on Thursday, January 16, 2025, will remain in effect until further notice.
The press statement emphasized the state’s commitment to resolving the issue peacefully, urging all stakeholders in the communities to cooperate with the government in seeking a lasting solution. To this end, an enlarged Committee of Stakeholders has been formed, comprising community representatives, service chiefs, and officials from the State Council of Obas, among others. This committee will work towards a permanent resolution of the conflict.
The statement also warned that anyone found instigating or engaging in further violence would face prosecution, in line with the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, as the state government remains committed to ensuring peace and stability in the region.
