Lagos Assembly Reshuffles Leadership, Appoints New Principal Officers
The Lagos State House of Assembly has appointed four new principal officers following the impeachment of former Speaker Mudashiru Obasa on Monday. The announcement was made by the new Speaker, Mrs. Mojisola Meranda (APC-Apapa 1), during a plenary session on Friday.
Obasa was impeached by 32 out of the 40 members of the House, following accusations of gross misconduct. Additionally, the Clerk of the House, Mr. Lekan Onafeko, was suspended for alleged financial impropriety.
As part of the restructuring, the House has also dissolved all standing committees that were previously inaugurated under Obasa’s leadership.
In her address, Speaker Meranda revealed the newly appointed officers: Mr. Temitope Adewale (APC-Ifako-Ijaiye 1) as the new Majority Leader, Mr. Adedamola Kasunmu (APC-Ikeja 1) as Deputy Majority Leader, Mr. Setonjo David (APC-Badagry 2) as Chief Whip, and Mr. Babatunde Saani (APC-Kosofe 2) as the Deputy Chief Whip.
This restructuring marks a significant shift in the leadership dynamics of the Lagos State House of Assembly.
