“Kogi State Polytechnic Matriculates Over 6,500 Students, Urges Zero Tolerance for Vices”

Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja, officially matriculated 6,549 students on Saturday for the 2024/2025 academic session, with a strong message from the Rector, Professor Salisu Usman Ogbo, urging the new students to avoid engaging in vices that could hinder their academic and personal progress.

The 32nd matriculation ceremony, held at the Lokoja campus, saw 3,708 students admitted for the National Diploma (ND) program and 2,841 students for the Higher National Diploma (HND) program. These students are enrolled in a diverse range of eight schools and 57 different programs offered by the Polytechnic.

In his address, Professor Ogbo congratulated the students on their successful admission but issued a stern warning against involvement in illegal activities such as cultism, gun-running, drug abuse, examination malpractice, and cybercrimes, stressing that the institution maintains zero tolerance for such behaviors. He reminded the students that any violations would lead to severe penalties, including expulsion and legal prosecution.

The Rector also emphasized the importance of adhering to the Polytechnic’s rules and regulations, noting that ignorance of the law would not be accepted. He specifically highlighted the prohibition of cultism on campus and encouraged students to respect the security protocols, including the mandatory possession of student identification cards while on campus.

Additionally, Professor Ogbo shared the good news of the Polytechnic’s 100% success rate in the recent accreditation exercise conducted by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE). The 27 programs presented for accreditation all received full approval, ensuring the continued quality of education at the institution.

The Rector commended both the outgoing Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, and his successor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, for their significant contributions to the development of education in the state, particularly in the Polytechnic sector.
