FCT Minister Nyesom Wike to Commission Six Major Road Projects Across Abuja’s Area Councils

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, is set to begin the commissioning of six significant road projects across the six area councils in Abuja starting this Monday. This is part of his administration’s commitment to improving infrastructure and connectivity within the FCT.

According to a statement by the senior special assistant to the FCT Minister on Public Communication and New Media, Lere Olayinka, the commissioning will kick off with the newly constructed 5-kilometer Naharati-River Ukya to Unguwan Hausawa Road in the Abaji Area Council. This project also includes the construction of a three-span river bridge, aimed at enhancing transportation in the region.

Road Projects Set for Commissioning

The full schedule of road projects to be commissioned includes:

  • Yangoji-Sukuku-Ebo Road: An 11-kilometer road in the Kwali Area Council.
  • Paikon Kore-Ibwa Road: A 9-kilometer road in the Gwagwalada Area Council, which has undergone rehabilitation.
  • Garage Junction to the Local Education Authority Secretariat Road: A newly completed asphalt carriageway in the Kuje Area Council.
  • Gaba-Tokulo Road: Featuring a two-span river bridge in the Bwari Area Council.
  • Access Road to Saburi I and II communities: This access road connects ONEX to the Old Keffi Road, near the Dei-Dei International Market in the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC).

Ongoing and Upcoming Projects

In addition to the commissioning events, several new and ongoing road projects are also being implemented across the FCT. These include:

  • Kabusa-Takushara Access Road and Kabusa-Ketti Access Road: New construction projects underway.
  • EFCC Academy Access Route: Connecting the new EFCC Academy site in Giri District.
  • 15-Kilometer Road from A2 Junction on the Abuja-Lokoja Road to Pia: In progress in the Kwali Area Council.
  • Kwaita/Yebu Road Reconstruction: A 25-kilometer road in Kwali.
  • Old Ushafa-LUD Road Rehabilitation and Dutse-Lower Usuma Dam Dual Carriage: Major ongoing projects in the Bwari Area Council.

Additional large-scale projects are also advancing, including:

  • 11-Kilometer Road Projects: Connecting Aguma Palace, Radio Nigeria, and the New Market in Gwagwalada, as well as a dual carriageway in the Dakibiyu District.
  • Arterial Roads Development: Significant roads including the 4-kilometer Arterial Road N5 (Obafemi Awolowo Road) from Life Camp to Ring Road III, and Arterial Road N16 (Shehu Shagari Way) from Ring Road II to Ring Road III, featuring two interchanges.
  • Judges Quarters Access Road: An 11.3-kilometer road connecting the Judges Quarters in Katampe.

These infrastructure projects reflect the ongoing efforts to improve road networks and foster economic growth in the Federal Capital Territory.
