Rival Cult Clash Claims Life of Nasiru in Owo, Ondo State

A deadly clash between rival cult groups in Owo, Ondo State, has claimed the life of Nasiru Isiaka, a notorious cult member, on Sunday. The tragic incident occurred barely a week after four people were shot dead in another cult-related violence in the town.

According to sources, Nasiru was targeted by two masked men believed to be members of a rival cult faction. The men traced him to the LA Gbanasa area of Owo, where they shot him in the head, ensuring his death before fleeing the scene.

Previous Cult Violence in the Area

This killing follows a recent spate of violence in Owo, which has witnessed deadly cult clashes between rival groups. A week earlier, four individuals were killed in similar violent confrontations between cult groups.

Police Confirmation and Investigation

The State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Funmi Odunlami, confirmed the murder, stating that Nasiru was a known cultist who had been on the police’s wanted list. Odunlami revealed that Nasiru was involved in several heinous activities within the community, including his participation in the End SARS protest, an attack on Uso Division, and the theft of an AK-47 and bulletproof vest from the police.

Odunlami explained that Nasiru had also been involved in the murder of one Adedeji Rafiu aka P.A., further linking him to violent activities in the region. She stated, “The command can confirm the murder of one Nasiru Isiaka aged 40 years, a notorious cultist who has been on the police wanted list.”

The police have launched an investigation into the incident, with efforts underway to apprehend those responsible for the murder.

The increasing violence in Owo and surrounding areas due to rival cult groups has raised concerns among local residents, who are calling for increased security measures to curb the rising tide of cult-related killings.
