Over 80 Dead in Niger Tanker Explosion: 20 Survivors Moved to Abuja Hospitals for Intensive Treatment
In accordance with President Bola Tinubu’s directive, the victims of the tragic fuel tanker explosion in Suleja, Niger State, have been transferred to tertiary medical facilities for advanced treatment.
The incident, which occurred when a fuel tanker overturned and spilled its contents, attracted a crowd trying to collect the leaking fuel. This led to a devastating explosion that claimed over 80 lives.
A statement issued on Monday by Rabiu Ibrahim, the media aide to the Minister of Information and National Orientation, confirmed the swift transfer of survivors. The move is part of the federal government’s response to ensure that those injured receive the necessary care at specialized medical centers.
20 Patients Admitted to Abuja Hospitals
Currently, 20 survivors are receiving treatment at the Gwagwalada Specialist Hospital in Abuja, while two other patients have been transferred to the Federal Medical Centre, Jabi, Abuja. To ensure the patients’ well-being during the transfer, medical personnel and family members accompanied them to the designated facilities.
The Niger State Government has expressed its deep gratitude to the Federal Government for the prompt action taken in the wake of the disaster.
Federal Government Vows Continued Support and Monitoring
The Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation has assured the public that it will continue to monitor the situation and provide regular updates. The statement further reiterated the commitment of the federal government to offer ongoing support and ensure the survivors’ recovery.
“The Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation will continue to monitor the situation closely and provide timely updates to Nigerians,” the statement read.
