The Gombe State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested 10 suspects for various alleged criminal activities across the state. The Commandant, Gyama Gyawiya, disclosed the arrests during a press conference at the State Command headquarters on Monday, where he provided details on the cases and updates on ongoing investigations.
Among the arrests was Dantala Babaniya, 30, along with two minors, Abubakar Mohammed (13) and Victor Clement (11), who are accused of committing sodomy at the Gombe Mega Park. Investigation is currently ongoing, with the suspects facing charges of unnatural offences.
Additionally, Babangida Mohammed and Mubarak Mohammed, both 18, were arrested for criminal conspiracy, criminal trespass, and theft. The suspects, along with two accomplices still at large, allegedly stole two goats from Kagarawal, Gombe LGA, on January 13, 2025, and slaughtered one. The police are working to apprehend the remaining suspects involved in the crime.
In another case of vandalism, 19-year-old Ismail Mohammed was arrested for the theft of aluminium power transmission cables in Kwami LGA. Mohammed, who has confessed to previous similar crimes, was caught with stolen cables and sold them at Yelenguruza in Gombe LGA. Efforts are underway to arrest his accomplices.
The NSCDC also apprehended Mohammed Adamu (21), Usman Mu’azu (17), and Alhassan Mohammed (17) for criminal conspiracy, trespass, and theft. On January 14, 2025, the trio stole a bag of maize from a house on Abacha Road in Gombe. While some of the maize was recovered, part of it remains missing. Investigations are ongoing.
Lastly, Muhammad Abubakar (Alhaji), 20, was arrested for escaping lawful custody and involvement in theft. Abubakar, who had previously escaped from detention while under investigation for same-sex marriage and related offences, was later involved in robbing two individuals of their money and mobile phones in January 2025. Investigations are continuing, and efforts to apprehend his accomplices are in progress.
The NSCDC Commandant assured that all the suspects would be prosecuted accordingly once investigations are completed. The ongoing investigations aim to identify and bring to justice all individuals connected to the crimes.
