Nigeria Approves Bola Ahmed Tinubu Federal Polytechnic in Gwarinpa, Abuja
The Nigerian Government has officially approved the establishment of the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Federal Polytechnic in Gwarinpa, Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja. This new initiative is part of the national policy aimed at enhancing technological, vocational, and entrepreneurial training across the country.
A letter dated January 9, 2025, from the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, outlined that the establishment of the polytechnic aligns with the Federal Government’s goal to ensure that every state in the federation has access to a federal polytechnic.
The letter, which was received by the FCT Minister’s office on January 16, 2025, requests that the minister propose potential locations for both the temporary and permanent sites of the polytechnic in Gwarinpa. Dr. Alausa mentioned that a technical team from the Federal Ministry of Education (FME) and the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) will be visiting the recommended sites to carry out an inspection and review. Approval for the project will follow based on the team’s report.
Additionally, Dr. Alausa noted that the Ministry encourages considering the takeover of existing tertiary institutions for the establishment of the polytechnic if deemed appropriate.
The new institution is expected to play a key role in advancing vocational and technological education, empowering individuals with the skills necessary for the workforce and entrepreneurship.
