Lagos APC Congratulates Mojisola Meranda, Calls for Diligence in Office

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State has extended congratulations to the newly elected Speaker of the state’s House of Assembly, Mrs. Mojisola Meranda, advising her to discharge her duties with diligence and integrity. The APC Spokesman, Mr. Seye Oladejo, offered the advice in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday, stressing the importance of upholding the trust of both the legislature and the people.

Oladejo acknowledged Meranda’s well-deserved election and highlighted the significant responsibility she now carries. “She needs no reminder that she’s first among equals, hence the need to remain a team player and maintain the cohesion, confidence, mutual respect, and understanding that brought her to office,” Oladejo stated.

The spokesman emphasized that Meranda must remain loyal to the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and adhere to democratic principles as part of fulfilling the social contract with the people of Lagos State, a responsibility closely tied to the APC’s values.

Oladejo expressed confidence that Meranda, who is the first female speaker of the House, would rise to the challenge and meet the expectations of her office. He added that her earlier statements on fostering a positive relationship with the executive were commendable, as it would be critical to the success of the House and the state as a whole.

“We have no doubt that she will deliver on this mandate and make the leadership and members of our party proud,” Oladejo concluded.

The appointment of Meranda follows the impeachment of the former speaker, Mr. Mudashiru Obasa, who was removed by 32 out of 40 lawmakers over allegations of gross misconduct. Meranda, the former Deputy Speaker, was sworn in on January 13 to replace Obasa, with Mr. Fatai Adebola also elected as Deputy Speaker.

On Monday, Speaker Meranda led a delegation of new principal officers from the House on a courtesy visit to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu in Ikeja. During the visit, Meranda reiterated the Assembly’s commitment to maintaining a harmonious working relationship with the executive, crucial for the development of Lagos State.
