CNG Calls for Amendments to Tax Bill to Protect Nigerian Citizens’ Interests

Comrade Jamilu Aliyu Chiranchi, National Coordinator of the Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG), has urged the National Assembly to reconsider certain provisions of a tax bill currently under review to better serve the interests of Nigerian citizens.

Speaking at the one-day National Women’s Conference at the Aminu Kano Centre for Democratic Research (Mambayya House) in Kano, Chiranchi appealed directly to lawmakers to ensure that the proposed amendments are seriously taken into account for the benefit of the Nigerian populace.

Chiranchi emphasized the CNG’s commitment to safeguarding the interests of all Nigerians, especially women and future generations, stating that the group’s objective is to ensure that policies reflect the nation’s best interests.

The CNG leader clarified that while the group does not oppose the tax bill as a whole, it seeks to address specific provisions within the bill that could have negative impacts on the citizens. “We remain committed to advocating for the necessary reforms to align the bill with Nigeria’s overall welfare,” Chiranchi explained.

In addition, Salisu Nuhu Muhammad, former General Secretary of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), commended the significant role women play in the national reform process. Muhammad praised the passion and commitment shown by women at the conference, saying, “Women are not fragile but have been mislabeled as vulnerable, though they are indeed the strongest.”

The event underscored the importance of inclusivity and responsibility in shaping laws that affect all citizens, particularly the country’s women.
