“NAFDAC Uncovers Illegal Repackaging of Expired Products in Ogbomosho Warehouse”
The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has uncovered a dangerous operation in Ogbomosho, where expired products were being illegally repackaged for sale. The agency confirmed the raid on its official X account on Tuesday, detailing the location of the warehouse as PP2A Bayajidda Street, New Ogbomosho Road, by Kano Road.
During the operation, NAFDAC officials discovered workers in the act of repackaging expired biscuits into sacks. In addition to the biscuits, several other expired products were found, including dairy milk, vegetable oil, soft drinks, detergents, and H-Pylori test kits—items that pose a significant risk to public health.
The agency also reported that the warehouse’s managing director was arrested for further questioning. NAFDAC emphasized that once the investigation is concluded, strict regulatory sanctions will be enforced.
The raid revealed expired goods valued at over seven million naira, raising serious concerns about the potential harm these items could have caused if they had entered the market. NAFDAC reminded the public of its guidelines for handling unwholesome products, which have been in effect since November 26, 2024. These guidelines regulate the proper disposal of expired and unsafe products across the country.
NAFDAC reiterated that no regulated product—whether food, medicine, medical devices, cosmetics, or other NAFDAC-approved items—should be manufactured, imported, or sold in Nigeria unless registered with the agency. It also explained that products are deemed unwholesome if they are expired, damaged, improperly sealed or stored, mislabeled, counterfeit, or substandard.
The agency encouraged Nigerians to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities or products to the nearest NAFDAC office to help maintain public health safety.
