Anambra Doctor Kidnapped Near Teaching Hospital, Family Negotiates Ransom
Dr. Collinus Onuigbo, a neurosurgeon at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital in Nnewi, Anambra State, has been kidnapped by armed gunmen. The abduction took place on Tuesday night, just outside his home, located near the teaching hospital.
While details on the ransom demand remain scarce, it is reported that Dr. Onuigbo’s family is already working to secure his release through payment. A source close to the family mentioned that they have chosen not to involve the police at this stage of the negotiations.
The Anambra State Police Command has confirmed the kidnapping and assured the public that efforts are underway to rescue the doctor. SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the spokesperson for the police, stated that the command is fully aware of the incident and that the Commissioner of Police, CP Obono Enaghe Itam, has given directives for a concerted effort to locate and free Dr. Onuigbo.
“We are aware of the kidnapping, and the command has been mobilized for his rescue. Our officers are actively working on the case,” Ikenga said.
As the situation unfolds, the authorities are continuing their efforts to ensure the safe return of the medical professional.
