Edo State to Hire 500 New Teachers in Effort to Improve Public Education
The Edo State Government has announced the approval for the recruitment of 500 new teachers to fill vacancies across the state’s public schools. Dr. Emmanuel Paddy Iyamu, the newly sworn-in Commissioner for Education, made the announcement to newsmen following his resumption at the Ministry of Education in Benin City.
According to Iyamu, the recruitment process will occur in stages, with the first batch of teachers to be employed soon. This initiative is part of the government’s strategy to increase the number of qualified educators in public schools, ensuring better educational standards across the state.
The commissioner highlighted that Governor Monday Okpebholo is deeply committed to enhancing the education sector, emphasizing the importance of adequately staffing schools with qualified teachers. He noted that the days of understaffed schools with as few as two or three teachers are now over, urging qualified Nigerians to apply for the positions, with recruitment strictly based on merit.
“We are excited to let the people of Edo know that Governor Monday Okpebholo is a man of his word,” said Iyamu. “He has approved the recruitment of 500 teachers, which will be carried out in phases. This is part of our effort to ensure that every child in Edo gets the best education while we continue to drive infrastructural development in the state.”
Iyamu also urged prospective applicants to apply through the official website and avoid any form of payment to third parties, assuring them that the recruitment process will be fair and transparent. “A new dawn is here, and a New Edo is risen,” he added, expressing gratitude to Governor Okpebholo for his commitment to the welfare of the state’s children.
