“15 Dead, Several Injured in Tragic Kwara Road Accident Involving Trailer and Canter Truck”

A devastating road accident in Kwara State has claimed the lives of at least 15 people, with several others suffering varying degrees of injury. The crash occurred on Wednesday at approximately 5:35 pm when a trailer, with registration number AYE 218 XC, collided head-on with a motor vehicle, registered TTN 556 XA.

Eyewitness accounts revealed that one of the vehicles involved in the accident was transporting cows and human passengers from Ilorin, the Kwara state capital, to Ogbomoso, Oyo state, while the trailer was traveling from Lagos to Kano. Emergency responders, along with police officers from the ‘G’ Division Police Command in Oloje, quickly arrived at the scene to manage the situation. The injured were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment, while the bodies of the deceased were evacuated by their families.

Although the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has not yet issued an official statement, a senior FRSC officer in Kwara, speaking on condition of anonymity, confirmed that 15 people had died and three others were injured. “The accident was a multiple crash involving a trailer and a Canter truck,” the officer said.

A video captured by one of the responders showed the truck on its side, with over 10 corpses scattered along the road. The video also featured a voice calling on the government to take urgent measures to address the frequent accidents in the area, which have claimed numerous lives in recent months.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation, though initial reports suggest that reckless driving and excessive speeding may have contributed to the crash. FRSC Sector Commander Muftau Irekeola confirmed the incident and acknowledged that the number of casualties may be accurate, but he is still awaiting further details from the Olooru unit.
