“Delta APC Slams Oborevwori’s Administration Over ‘Bogus’ Revenue Claims”
The leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State has expressed skepticism over the state’s claim of a 143% revenue generation performance, urging the Delta State Board of Internal Revenue (DBIR) to provide clarity on how these figures were achieved.
In a statement released by the party’s Publicity Secretary, Valentine Onojeghuo Esq., the APC questioned the credibility and transparency of the claim, which it believes is part of an attempt to spin the underwhelming performance of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s administration in a more favorable light.
While acknowledging the importance of efficient revenue collection, the APC raised concerns over the lack of verifiable data to support the DBIR’s assertion. The party described these claims as political rhetoric aimed at masking the administration’s failures and covering up alleged corruption within the DBIR.
“The people of Delta State deserve transparency and accountability,” the statement read. “Such claims should not be treated as mere propaganda.” The APC pointed to an ongoing investigation into the former governor over allegations of mismanagement of 1.3 trillion naira in 13% derivation funds, as evidence of the financial mismanagement that has marred the state government.
The APC further criticized the state’s leadership for failing to provide a detailed breakdown of the 143% revenue performance, asking the government to be transparent about how the funds have been allocated and the tangible benefits for Deltans. It called on the state to demonstrate how improved revenue generation will contribute to enhanced infrastructure, healthcare, education, and job creation.
“We cannot accept inflated revenue figures without any clear evidence,” the party stated. “It is high time the state government moved beyond claims and presented a clear, transparent roadmap for progress.”
The APC reiterated its commitment to advocating for fiscal responsibility and good governance, underscoring that the people of Delta deserve the truth about the state’s revenue generation efforts.
The party also reminded the public of its previous calls for reforms in the state’s revenue system, including addressing leakages, improving tax collection efficiency, and making the process more inclusive. Unfortunately, the APC argues that the Oborevwori administration has yet to address these issues, further fueling public perception of a government more focused on political self-interest than on the welfare of the people.
