Former FCT Minister, Lt. General Jeremiah Useni, Dies at 82
Senator Jeremiah Timbut Useni, a former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has passed away at the age of 82. Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, confirmed the news on Thursday night, expressing deep sorrow over the loss of the distinguished elder statesman.
In a statement issued by the Governor’s Director of Press and Public Affairs, Gyang Bere, Governor Mutfwang conveyed his condolences to the people of Plateau State and all Nigerians, calling General Useni’s death a tremendous loss to his family, the Nigerian Armed Forces, Plateau State, and the nation as a whole.
A Life of Service and Dedication
General Useni, who died on January 23, 2025, after a prolonged illness, was celebrated for his leadership and unwavering commitment to service. His contributions to Nigeria’s security, politics, and development have left an indelible mark on the country. Governor Mutfwang recalled the late General’s tireless efforts to promote peace and security, especially in Plateau State and Northern Nigeria.
An Illustrious Career in Military and Politics
General Useni had an illustrious career, serving in various high-ranking positions, including Minister of Transport, Quarter-Master General of the Nigerian Army, and Minister of the FCT. After retiring from the military, he transitioned into politics, continuing his service to the nation. He served as Deputy Chairman of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) and was elected Senator for Plateau South Senatorial District in 2015 under the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
