World Igbo Congress to Hold Emergency Meeting on Nnamdi Kanu and Insecurity

Igbo people across the globe, particularly in Europe and America, are set to hold an emergency general meeting of the World Igbo Congress (WIC) this Saturday. The meeting will take place at noon USA Eastern time and 7:00 PM Alaigbo time, as directed by the Chairman of the Board of Directors of WIC, Dr. Festus Okere.

The meeting, called by WIC Vice Chairman Hon. Basil Onwukwe, aims to address critical issues facing the Igbo community, with a particular focus on the ongoing incarceration of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), and the escalating insecurity in South East Nigeria.

Onwukwe highlighted the urgent need for this gathering, stating that the current leadership in Igboland has failed to safeguard the lives of the youth, and insecurity has reached alarming levels. He expressed concern over the militarization of the region, the abductions, and the “kill on sight” raids, describing these actions as a betrayal and a serious threat to national unity.

“This meeting could not have come at a more critical time,” Onwukwe added. “The issues facing us, including the unlawful detention of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, are beyond political neglect.
