The Zamfara State government has announced plans to establish a comprehensive dashboard that will track the performance of various sectors in the state, ensuring progress in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Dr. Aliyu Adamu, the Special Adviser to Governor Dauda Lawal on SDGs, made the announcement during a stakeholders’ meeting to present the 2023 performance tracking report in Gusau. According to Adamu, the new dashboard will provide accurate, real-time data, serving as a critical tool for policymakers, development partners, and donor agencies.
“This initiative will enable us to have precise and reliable data that will guide our policies and programs in achieving SDG targets in our communities,” Adamu stated. He further explained that the dashboard would be reviewed quarterly to assess the state’s performance and guide necessary adjustments.
Adamu also acknowledged the ongoing challenges the state faces, particularly multidimensional poverty, which he attributed to factors like insecurity and other regional disasters. He reassured stakeholders that the government is committed to combating these issues while continuing to fund poverty alleviation programs.
The initiative received praise from several stakeholders, including Nasiru Biyabiki, State Coordinator of the Social Protection Platform; Lawal Shehu, State Coordinator of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA); and Yakubu Yari, Provost of Zamfara College of Art and Sciences (ZACAS). They all emphasized the importance of accurate data for guiding development efforts, with a particular focus on the need for reliable information to shape effective action plans.
The development partners also expressed their commitment to supporting the state’s Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) in achieving the desired SDG targets, urging the government to maintain its efforts toward sustainable development.
