“Osun APC Leadership Calls for Unity Amid Governorship Aspirant Debate”
The leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State has urged its members to exercise restraint and avoid creating divisions within the party over the upcoming governorship election. In a statement signed by the party’s Chairman, Tajudeen Lawal, and issued by the Director of Media and Information, Kola Olabisi, the party leadership expressed concern that personal ambitions were threatening to tarnish the party’s image.
Lawal noted that some members of the APC had been openly campaigning for their preferred governorship candidates, despite a ban on such activities. He described this behavior as detrimental to the party’s unity, stressing the need for cooperation rather than division.
“The actions of some members are worrisome and strange,” Lawal said. “It is selfish and reckless to allow anyone’s ambition to tear the party apart. We must remember that our party is built on the principles of justice, fairness, and the rule of law.”
The statement came amid growing demands from various interest groups within the party, with calls for the governorship ticket to be zoned to the Osun West Senatorial District. Some of these groups have also argued that former Governor Adegboyega Oyetola should have the “right of first refusal,” while others suggest Bisi Akande, the former National Chairman, could endorse a particular candidate. However, there have also been accusations that Oyetola and Akande are attempting to impose a specific candidate on the party.
Lawal reiterated that the APC in Osun had not yet adopted any candidate for the governorship race and emphasized that the party would follow due process when the time came to select a candidate. He called on all party members to focus on unity and cooperation in the lead-up to the 2026 elections.
“The collective task of every member of our party should be to work together to realize our shared aspirations for the forthcoming elections,” Lawal said. “The people of Osun are eager for change, and it is our responsibility to ensure that our party remains strong and united.”
He concluded by warning that any member found intentionally promoting discord within the party would face consequences, in line with the APC’s constitution.
