Nnamdi Kanu Claims No Hope for Fair Judgment in Abuja
Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has expressed a grim outlook on the possibility of receiving a fair judgment from any court in Abuja. According to Kanu, his cases are being influenced not by the rule of law, but by what he describes as “dirty and deadly politics.”
Through his legal team, led by Special Counsel Barrister Aloy Ejimakor, Kanu argued that the manner in which the law is being applied in his case does not align with Nigeria’s written laws or relevant international legal standards. Kanu further stated that his trial is nothing more than a “sham” intended to undermine truth and justice.
In a statement issued by Ejimakor following a routine visit to Kanu at the Department of State Services (DSS) detention facility, Kanu’s legal team conveyed his sentiments to the public. Kanu reportedly told his lawyers, “He is not expecting any favourable judgment from any courts in Abuja because his cases are not being decided in accordance with the rule of law, but rather through the rules of politics—dirty and deadly politics.”
Kanu emphasized that those profiting from the ongoing insecurity in the country are the ones behind the negative decisions made against him. He believes that if justice were truly served, the false narratives and attacks against his person and IPOB’s cause would no longer hold sway in the public’s view.
He urged the public to carefully review all court decisions and rulings related to his case and IPOB, pointing out that the legal outcomes are far from what the law dictates. Kanu reiterated that the entire process is designed to destroy the truth and thwart justice.
In an earlier report, SaharaReporters revealed that Kanu had formally requested for his cases to be transferred from Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court in Abuja to a court in the Southeastern or South-South regions of Nigeria. He also called for Justice Nyako to recuse herself from his cases, further fueling his claims of a biased legal system.
