“Humanitarian Ministry Warns Against Fake N50,000 Child Support Grant Scam”
The Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction has dismissed as fake the viral claim of a N50,000 Child Support Grant for Nigerian parents circulating on social media.
In a statement issued on Saturday, Mrs. Rhoda Iliya, the Ministry’s Director of Information, cautioned Nigerians to be wary of fraudsters capitalizing on the misinformation. She labeled the information as “fake news,” urging parents to refrain from engaging with the supposed registration portal associated with the scam.
“This is a scam trending on social media, and the Ministry has tagged it as fake news,” the statement read. “We are not aware of any such registration portal. If the Ministry were to launch a program like this, there would be proper public enlightenment and official communication.”
The Ministry warned the public to be cautious, advising them not to fall victim to scammers. “Nigerians should be careful. Don’t be a victim of these scammers on social media. Also, alert your families, friends, and well-wishers not to apply,” the statement concluded.
